The man behind the winning commercials of McCann Erickson has won 400 awards while he also sits at the top with his winnings in Malaysia's first Cannes Gold Lions in 1999; others under Huang's leadership consist of two consecutive Malaysian Grand Prix- 'Agency of the Year' in year 2005 & 2006, Gunn Report, Artline and in 2008 Campaign Brief Asia named McCann Malaysia 'Malaysian Agency of the Year'. The students at the academy were in for a treat as the renowned speaker shared on the topic "How to Succeed in the Advertising/Design Industry" with objective to inspire students to start recognising their journey to success early.
During the sharing, Huang spoke about the early stages of his career in the year 1990 as a Paintbox Artist and later on, grew into an art director which led him to his aim in serving alongside the late Yasmin Ahmad at Leo Burnett for 6 years; a mentor who always reminded him to never forget his roots. Huang's career continued to bloom when he joined BBDO as a Joint Creative Director in 1999 and became the Executive Creative Director in 2002 at McCann Erickson Malaysia.
Huang showed the students his various first commercials and explained the different working cultures in in the previous & current advertising field. He included that times were very different back then as he used to juggle between his studies and a part time job, hence, resulted to who he has become today. To quote, Huang repeated an advise six times which said "If you fail, try again!" as to further emphasise his point to the students that there are no reason why an individual should give up when possibilities are endless. Huang continued to show a few Proton commercials by McCann and spoke about how students should be confident in their journey to success regardless of rejection or downfalls. He said, "Sometimes the truth hurts, but it can set you free", a tip which he religiously followed as this has helped him to be brave in the mind, body and soul to take up challenges despite myriads of rejections and obstacles.
In his sharing, one would be able to know that Huang's early years was just like any youth in pursue of his dreams; he worked hard and led to his career today which doesn't stop at the executive creative director post. In 2006, he was promoted to Deputy Chairman in McCann Worldgroup Malaysia where he also upholds his position as a member of the Regional Creative Council at the McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific Management Board. The One Academy in full throttle hopes that its students would be able to be at par as Huang himself where to date his creative advertising expertise has made him the jury in the Malaysian Kancil Awards, the Malaysian Creative Circle, AdFest, Times Asia Pacific Advertising Awards, Cresta Awards, Clios and Cannes Lions. Huang strongly believes that The One Academy students would be great achievers some day and he looks forward to see them become future pro-players. As Huang ended the sharing, he closed with a final advice which he quoted from the famous Star Wars, "May the Force Be with you."
