With their own creative potential, The One Academy students are known to create winning works, thanks for their lecturers and out-of-classroom learning experience, their environment has served them well as an inspiration to create creative works of art.
The One Academy advertising & graphic design students were encouraged by their lecturers to participate in Candy Land Creative T-shirt Design Competition held by Queensbay Mall, Penang. There were approximately 300 students who participated, from both The One Academy Bandar Sunway and Penang. Each student submitted the most extraordinary t-shirt design themed Candy Land, in conjunction of the Christmas event in the Penang mall. At the fanciful event, besides the Christmas celebration with various activities, the T-shirt design competition was a sideline, welcoming The One Academy to participate in the design contest to “sweeten” things up! It was held at the Central Atrium, Ground Floor of the mall.
With their candy-like colours and design submission, 3 advertising & graphic design students from The One Academy and their outstanding submission was selected as winners of the design competition. The winners are; Tan Kar Wei, who submitted a design, inspired by badminton the sport, and bagged 1st Place; Grand Prize of RM1000 cash, shopping vouchers and certificate of participation. His design consists of a huge mouth with thick lips placed at the centre of the shirt, stuffed with lots of colourful candies made with shuttlecocks. The candies appeared delicious and irresistible which led to win the judges’ hearts. 2nd place went to Ng En Ni, who received RM800 along with cash, shopping vouchers and certificate of participation. Ng’s work was labelled “cool and stylish” for incorporating more graphic elements on it.
Finally in 3rd place, was seized by Gan Zhin Yui, who received RM500 cash with shopping vouchers and certificate of participation too. 100 entries selected out of the 300 as best selection was rewarded RM20 F&B Vouchers with certificate of participation for their creative effort.
Besides the contest, there was even a stellar fantasy performance, a Christmas live show called Kayla’s Adventure in Candy Land, as part of the Queensbay Mall’s Christmas entertainment line-up. It was certainly a one-of-a-kind creative experience for The One Academy students to be involved in. The competition was a unique exposure, allowing students to think-out-of-the-box and a chance for them to create unconventional designs. Congrats to the students for their effort!
