Updated 2010-02-02
Following the most resounding success of last year's Street Fighter Tribute Book contest, leading international video game developer and publisher Capcom went on to launch another art competition for their Darkstalkers Tribute Book, held in conjunction with its 15th anniversary in the gaming market.

Past winners for the Street Fighter Tribute Book, Bram Lee Chin Horng, Lum Choon Kiat and Wang Liang Feng, entered the competition and tasted victory again.

For the Darkstalkers Tribute Book, fans and art enthusiasts of the 2-D fighting game series Darkstalkers from around the world submitted their best masterpiece and out of 150 over entries chosen as finalists, seven winners selected were The One Academy alumni who won themselves a chance to publish their artworks in a special Darkstalkers Tribute. The Darkstalkers Tribute artbook is a special volume of original illustrations from artists all around the globe, showcasing official artworks by professional and fans alike.

The winners include Chang Lip Wei, Chong Fei Giap, Jarold S'ng, two-time winner Wang Liang Feng, Cheong Soon Seng, Yap Zhuo Yu, as well as Malaysia's rising manga artist Beatrice Tan, known better as Kidchan.

Young illustrator Fei Giap was excited to learn that he was one of the winners. "It's really great to see my artwork published in such a wonderful tribute art book." His illustration portrays the two main female characters in Darkstalkers. "The style is based on traditional oil paint to bring out the erotic feeling, and is inspired by western traditional oil paintings,"

Meanwhile, Illustration junior lecturer Yap Zhuo Yu draws further inspiration from the stereotypical female game characters. "Most of the female game characters that we know look gorgeous and sexy, so it gave me the idea to create just 'the opposite'." He said it took him about a month to execute his work and feels very happy to be featured in the Darkstalkers Tribute. Congrats all!
