Updated 2011-02-22
What started as a simple course project drives The One Academy aspiring multimedia designers to win four awards in Malaysians United for Road Safety (MUFORS) Road Reels where they get together to create films to promote road safety awareness.

'Zebra People' by Shaiianne Lydia Ong, Choong Shin Yi, Chang Xin Zhe and Low Ooi Teik nailed Champion in short film/mini-documentary category, portraying how dramatic examples are needed to shake the apathy of society in the importance of educating road safety to children.

"It was the first competition for all of us, a new experience. We learnt the basic skills required to produce a short film, from shooting to editing and output. We also learnt to coordinate as a team and to use video as a means to deliver an idea," said Shaiianne, one of the winning team members.

Upon their first big win in the competition, the team said it felt like a good surprise. "It's nice to see other people take notice of our group's work. And it was also humbling to know that our video had some impact on people besides us."

Winning 2nd runner up is team Ng Jia Haw, Lim Yee Hong, Lim Li Jun for ‘Signs’ under public service announcement category. "The video is all about the Malaysians' attitude on the road. We wanted to bring out the message that we don't need a car to have a bad attitude because attitude carries you everywhere."

Another duo team Poi Yong Wei and Ritchie Fernando Wijaya also won a 2nd runner up under animation short category for 'The Speed, The Flip, The Hospital Trip', together with a top 5 winner team Redmond Ho, Koh Liang Sheng and Chuah Xit Zheng for 'If'.
