In collaboration with Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and the Embassy of Switzerland, The One Academy exhibited 9 pieces of artworks by the advertising & graphic design students at an art exhibition held at Lemon Garden Café from 18th – 27th September 2014.
The art exhibition aimed to manifest students' creative interpretation of Switzerland's remarkable public transport system. To highlight its various strengths, participants conducted in-depth research about the system. During the opening ceremony, selected winners received their prizes for their creative effort, presented by His Excellency Dr. Rolf Lenz, Ambassador of Switzerland to Malaysia.
Five of advertising & graphic design students emerged as top 3 winners at the Swiss Travel System Design Competition, winning a whopping total of RM3, 800 cash prizes. The grand winner of the day was seized by duo Gan Zhin Yui & Chin Yee Voon, who won RM1, 800. 2nd Prize was bagged by teammates Cheah Hui Ting & Wong Pui Yan, winning themselves RM1, 200 and finally, 3rd Prize of RM800 was taken home by Benny Yap.
The transportation system in Switzerland is known to be convenient, allowing people to reach their destinations by boats, buses, trains and cable cars. One of the winners, Benny Yap, was inspired by this concept and shared about his artwork, “My artwork called ‘Sea to Sky’ was inspired by Switzerland transportation that allows you to travel around the beautiful country on sea, land and sky.”
As for 2nd prize winners, Cheah Hui Ying and Wong Pui Yan, the duo described that cable car transportation in Switzerland is unique because it takes people to places while they enjoy the scenery; something we don’t get to experience very often. “It is an experience that allows us to appreciate the field of vision with excitement and fascination, and that inspired our artwork entitled ‘The Window to Extraordinary Experience’.
This exposure has enabled students to learn how to meet industry standards by using their creativity to create a conceptual artwork. At The One Academy, industry lecturers constantly remind students to not limit themselves, but motivate them to break free from creative boundaries, producing outstanding results!
